Mulieres Mums celebrates mothers around the world.

Mulieres Mums celebrates mothers around the world who are raising children in a more sustainable and greener environment. We asked some amazing mums to share their insights and tips.

Meet Theresa @jaggery_london. Theresa is the founder of London based ethical knitwear brand Jaggery. We spoke to her about her conscious approach to fashion and where her inspiration comes from.

How did the idea come about for Jaggery clothing?
With JAGGERY London I wanted to create a ‘wear good, feel good’ knitwear brand, offering knitwear for women & children that is made in a respectful way. Always respectful to the makers and respectful to our planet (we only use organic cotton and all our wool is end of line/left over yarn). Knitwear that is hand knitted by loving hands for people to wear with so much joy everyday.

Tell us a little bit about the makers of Jaggery clothing.
All of our knitwear is fair & ethically made in a little Township in south India in an amazing workshop/project employing women makers from the surrounding villages, helping to empower them, strengthening them socially, culturally and economically. I am so grateful to be working with such incredibly skilled crafters and I feel so proud to be able wear their hand knitted goodness everyday.

‘At JAGGERY we promote a conscious approach to laundry care. We believe the better you take care of your knitwear, the longer it will last’.

Have you always been a conscious consumer or was there a moment that caused you to think more about the way you buy?
We as a family have always cared very much about what we buy and are very conscious about how what we choose to buy impacts our planet. For me there really is, and always has been, only one way forward and that is a more conscious approach to consumerism.

As a mother and an owner of a sustainable brand, how important is the aftercare of the clothes to you?
At JAGGERY we promote a conscious approach to laundry care.We believe the better you take care of your knitwear, the longer it will last. We recommend using natural soaps and washing liquids that are made from organic and natural ingredients. They are gentle on your/your family’s skin and gentle on the environment as 100% biodegradable. The synthetic ingredients and optical brighteners in conventional laundry products can damage the yarn and leave it feeling dry and looking dull. A more conscious approach to is laundry care is better for the planet and better for you.

What inspires and motivates you to do what you do?
My children. Every day. They make me want to do everything in my power to make this planet the best home for them.

What do you love most about living in London?
The wonderful mix of people. All religions and nationalities living side by side in this city. That is the biggest gift London gives me everyday.

What would your best parenting advise be?
Be the change you want to see! If you would like your children to be/act/behave in a certain way, I feel one needs to lead by example. The easiest way for children to learn is by showing them, often not many words are necessary, they will watch you, absorb it all and learn with you, learn through you and live it with you.
